MillennialMindset - Nik Mirkovic

Introduce Yourself! Who are you, and what do you do?

I am Nik Mirkovic, I am the co-owner of HiSmile

What does the millennial mindset mean to you?

I don’t believe that there is such a thing as “Millennial Mindset”. Every generation gets stereotyped as being lazier, slower or less hardworking than the previous generations. I think that Millennial or not, there are types of people who are hardworking, ambitious and willing to put in the work to make whatever dream or goal they have for themselves possible. Millennials must embrace a mindset of chasing whatever goal they set, and to work as hard as possible to achieve that. Inspire yourself through positive reinforcement and then infect others around you with the same mindset.

How do you think you’ve embraced the millennial mindset?

I have embraced a mindset of hard work and positivity. I have done this by constantly never being happy with the situation or place that I am at. If you are never satisfied and are looking to build legacy, your work is never done.

What’s one stereotype millennials have been given that you dislike or think is invalid?

As I have said before, every generation is stereotyped for being less hard-working than the previous, all you need to do to break this stereotype is to put in the work it takes to make you successful. We all know what that is, we are just sometimes too afraid to truly push ourselves. Don’t let a generational stereotype define you, let your actions define you.

Tell us one achievement you’re super proud of:

I have been very proud of the culture and team we have built here at HiSmile. We are all very young and at the start of our professional journeys. We are basically building work culture from the ground up, and I truly believe that it stems from the positive culture Alex and I instituted at the start. Very proud of the team and all that we have achieved and will continue to achieve.

Tell us one obstacle you’ve had to overcome & how:

We are always constantly overcoming obstacles. Hard to pick one. I think for us, we never really view them as obstacles, instead we view each individual issue as a stepping stone to the next great challenge. That’s why we have been successful and will continue to be. Nothing is an obstacle, they are all just challenges that we welcome.

What advice would you give to other millennials wanting to break the 9-5 lifestyle?

The advice I would give would be to listen to yourself. Only you know what truly makes you happy day to day, month to month, year to year. Do whatever makes you happy and don’t listen to anyone else in that regard. At the end of the day, you only have yourself to answer to for your decisions, best that they are ones that you made for yourself. Don’t be afraid to fail, failure makes for great learning experiences, and in entrepreneurship or in any facet of life, you only learn from your mistakes, and for us at HiSmile, that has been a very successful formula.
