Are these younger generations really heading the wrong way or is the older generations’ trust not
strong enough to believe in the capacity of the millennials and iGeneration? Perhaps, you’re more familiar with the people who are part of the millennial generation and not aware that iGeneration actually exists.
This generation is often called the unknowns and is composed of the teens or toddlers with the birth years from 1996 to 2000s. In some cases, other people stated that millennials are actually composed of two generations which are the Generation Y and Generation Z. 83.1 million or 27% of US population are composed of millennials.
But the real question here is… Have these two younger generations lost their sense of direction
towards success? Will they be the reason for the downfall of society or will they be able to defend
their generations against the stereotypical criticisms that they’ve been receiving?
They’re in the middle. Believe it or not, they are not lost.
#1 Millennials are Constantly Seeking Purpose
Being in the middle carries a lot of responsibility, but there are only two options, it’s either move forward or go backwards—there’s no in between. They still need to be mentored.
Why? Not because they don’t know where they are going… it’s just they’re still young enough to be able to fully understand what adulthood is all about. Perhaps, the best thing that the older generation might offer is their understanding and lessons that would help the younger generation. The younger generation must also do their parts in return.
If everyone will just do their part, it may not be such a cruel world. Millennials are constantly seeking purpose. This is one of the reasons why some of the millennials are leaving their jobs. It’s because they are constantly seeking purpose in what they do for a living and at the same time want to know how their job is helping them get to the top.
A paycheck doesn’t make them stick to their jobs. It’s about the number of good things that they can experience or receive while working. They’re just being misunderstood. For some millennials that continually shift their course or direction, it doesn’t mean they haven’t thought of a future plan.
#2 It’s Okay To Not Know Which Course To Take
While millennials are in the process of navigating life or careers, they may realize the field they’re in may not be where they say their future. The truth is, everyone has a choice, but they’re not sure which choice is the right one for them…just yet. Similar to choosing what degree to take, they’re also quite indecisive with what career path they should go down. They don’t want to decide because they’re lazy, but because it’s too damn difficult.
#3 They’re Sick of The Pressure
Being pressured has its good and bad sides, but millennials often don’t want to be pressured. They have their own roads to walk through by themselves.
Some parents need to understand there are things that their children couldn’t do anymore, or what was normal then may not be the normal now. It is unfair to think that they are called lazy because they do not work in the same way as generations before them.
As the world and society changes, the way people work also changes. Since this generation is in a vastly different world than the older generation, it’s not that easy to follow what they did. For example, there are a lot of jobs that don’t require you to leave your house anymore.
#4 60% Millennials Enjoy Working From Home
They’re not just talkers. Millennials are also doers. They might spend a lot of time procrastinating about certain problems that affect them but you simply can’t deny the fact the once a millennial says something, they will do anything to accomplish it. This generation are the ones who will thrive in the workplace because they know what they want, and they aren’t afraid to stand up for what they want.
Millennials might appear strong, due to this trait and because of the non-stop rally against the issues that affect them but there is another side to them that needs to be understood by the older generation.
That is, they’re too scared of the future and what others might say towards them. It’s true that they’re afraid of rejection, but the good thing about them is that they could easily cope and would still be eager to move forward.
#5 Hope For Younger Generations
Younger generations need to achieve something in order to be able to prove the negative criticisms that other people are telling them are not true. Why is it that they’re saying this generation is
actually heading the wrong way? Maybe they’re not what they’re used to be because of the changes
that have been happening almost every day.
Maybe they’re not really heading in the wrong direction? Perhaps, they’re just adjusting and the best
way to cope with this is not to go down the path that our parents went through.
There’s a fire burning inside of them that triggers them to be someone who doesn’t want to follow in the footsteps of their parents or what society says they should do. They are eager and willing to discover new things even if their path is crooked and still undiscovered.
